WAYS TO RELOCATE IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WAY

When relocating, most people assume that the process could not affect the environment. However, you will see that the opposite is true once you put some thought to it. The gas used in the transit vehicle, items you trash, and packing equipment you dispose of after use could have some repercussions on your surroundings. Even though most of these things cannot be avoided, there are some methods you can employ to make a difference for the better. Movers in Hamilton have some guidelines to help you avoid harming the environment during your move.

Trash Items Properly

Moving provides the opportunity to declutter to save on room, time, and cash. However, as much as the trashing process will be helping you, it could affect the environment. Putting everything you do not need in the garbage is probably not the best direction to take. Consider doing one of the following:

  • Put items that are still in a good state on sale, particularly those that are costly. A garage sale is a good way to sell such items fast or on an online platform such as eBay
  • Such good items can also be given to charity where you are sure they will help someone in need
  • Belongings that have sentimental value but won’t be moved can be given to loved ones
  • Broken down devices such as electronics and other unnecessary items can be recycled
  • Use up food and cleaning supplies before the big day arrives. If you still have some on relocation day, give them to neighbors or friends
  • Do some research on the best way to trash dangerous elements that are flammable or toxic

Organize using Environmentally Friendly Equipment

Supplies such as paper require the cutting down of trees to be produced while others such as plastic are harmful due to their no-degradable properties. All these can be avoided by using eco-friendly equipment:

Recycle moving containers

A sturdy carton can withstand use up to ten times before disposal. Therefore, search for used containers before you consider purchasing new ones.  Some great places to get such containers include liquor, grocery, or bookstores. You can also request loved ones or colleagues who just relocated to lend you some organizing equipment they may not need.

Some individuals have also been known to put some reusable organizing items on sale online. Also, some agencies specialize in the sale of container rejects from their manufacturers that only feature minor flaws.

Rent recycled plastic bins

Since they are crafted from recycled plastic, these bins will go a long way in making your move eco-friendly. Additionally, these containers are sturdy, which makes them safe to organize belongings. They can also be heaped together without crushing each other. The beauty of them is that various agencies have them for hire. That means you don’t have to stress over their storage once the move is complete.

Use organizing tools that are biodegradable

Organizing supplies such as packing peanuts, bubble wraps, and other plastic products are hazardous to the environment due to their non-degradable nature. Degradable options for all these products are made available in the market such as those made out of natural rubber and biological matter.

Substitute organizing equipment with some of your belongings

If finding recycled containers proves to be a problem, suitcases, crates, and laundry baskets can serve the purpose. You can pack small items such as books, attires, toys, and footwear. Also, you do not have to worry about their storage or disposal since they will be needed in your new place. Towels, old clothes, and blankets can be used as padding materials for delicate items and will not cost you a dime.

After you have organized your items in a green way, your next step will be transporting them in the same manner. It is recommended to:

  • Rent the services of a green relocating firm. Once you have cut down your options to about three or four agencies, request to know about the steps they have in place to keep the environment safe. Green companies use biodiesel to run vehicles, recycle moving containers and packing supplies, and they merge shipments to use fewer resources
  • If you are pulling off a DIY move, hire a relocating van that runs on biodiesel, keeps your moving trips as minimum as possible, and go for the smallest vehicle that can fit all your belongings. Consider moving as much as you can in your vehicle.
  • Combine your belongings with those of another person if your relocate is across the country. This will lessen the resources used

Once the move is complete, find a purpose for your moving cartons in your new place. If the organizing supplies are still in good shape, you can save them to use another time or lend them to others who are relocating. Consider using natural supplies to clean your home. That way, you can keep the environment safe even after the relocation.
